“Naked a man comes from his mother’s womb, and as he comes, so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.” Ecclesiastes 5:15
In our current society and since the beginning of time, man has always tried to gain in one way shape or form. Some try to gain wealth, some try to gain earthly possessions, and some try to gain knowledge. The wise try to gain the knowledge: sometimes realizing that all that effort to gain something leads to the same place in the end; death. Whether people want to admit it or not, the truth of the matter is, we all will die one day. We live in a world that values superficial ideals, youth is always trying to be recaptured, and many die still trying to capture something that was never meant to be caught.
Superficiality is praised in common society. Plastic surgery, mansions, expensive cars, the list goes on and on, these ideals are worthless items that will never quench the true thirst of individuals. How many times do you see wealthy individuals that are still miserable? Many people believe “if I just had this or that I’d be happy;” but, they never are. We came into this world with nothing and we will leave this world the same way.
For those who know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior they gain everything. An eternal resting place is waiting for them. An end to sadness and worry, they will walk with Jesus for all eternity and never want for anything ever again. They will rest for all of time in the comfort of Jesus’ loving arms. His perfect sacrifice paves the way for our complete peace.
In the end the choice is ultimately ours. We choose what is important in our lives. We make a conscious decision every day in what we value and believe. Our souls live on whether in Heaven or in Hell. But either way, all that striving, all that wanting in life; all those desires for earthly possessions will mean nothing in death. Think of all the time wasted wanting, when we should have been praising God. Think of all the times we look to others and envy, when in reality we do not know what others are going through and if their souls are eternally at peace.
No matter where you fall in society, rich, poor, middleclass; we all will die. We will leave this world and our soul will either enter Heaven or Hell and all those earthly riches will not save you. Wouldn’t you rather rest in the knowledge that Jesus is yours and you are his? You can, drink from his eternal spring and live. - Jackie
