“A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”-Psalm 91:7
Psalm 91 is a chapter I read often. When everything around us seems chaotic, when the world seems to be going downhill faster than we could have ever imagine, I look to Psalm 91 for comfort and reassurance.
God is our shelter and our strength, correct? So, why do we so often look to a fallen world in hopes of it making us feel better? We expect to be comforted by a lost world when God should always be the one we turn to for comfort. The unexpected is expected to God, he and he alone knows what’s coming before we do and he expects it. He formed us, he watched us grow and change throughout our lives, and he guides us and shows us a path when there is no path.
When everything around us is uncertain, God is always certain. He is our safe haven. He is a place to hang our heavy heads and rest our weary feet. A war might be going on around us but he protects us, he’s right there with us.
I picture God being in the war zone with us, bullets may be flying all around us, others may fall, but, God never leaves us. He is right there in the trenches with us, taking our bullets, healing our wounds, and preparing the ultimate homecoming for us.
We may not be ready for this world, but that’s okay because God is ready. We never walk alone, he walks beside us, and when we are too weak to walk, he carries us. This world may be uncertain, it may cause us to fear the future; but remember God overcame the world. And he made each of us to be a beautiful creation; a light in dark times. So, when you are uncertain about this earthly existence, remember, you are living for your eternal home, not your earthly one. And, when you fear the path in front of you just say “God cover me!” and he will!
